Long Time, No See

Wow, I can’t believe it’s two years since I last posted to this blog.  A long time, possibly the longest of my many breaks from writing on here. A lot has changed since the last time I was here. And by a lot, I mean everything.

So, first of all, we’re no longer a family of five. I ended my marriage to Stonelaughter almost two years ago. It took me a long time to find the courage to do it, but I finally did in June 2019. So now, it’s just me and the kids, and life is happier.

There’s a change there too. I used to write about my two sons and my daughter, but I was wrong about that. In November 2019, my eldest child gracefully told me that she was my eldest daughter, not my eldest son. It’s a journey I’m proud to take alongside her.

The four of us have moved house – a few weeks before the first lockdown! The kids were amazing about leaving the only house any of them had lived in to come to this new house I’d found for us. To be fair, it’s bigger, nicer, has more outside space (and thank goodness, because a few weeks after we moved in, I was told to shield, and so the four of us spent five months under house arrest!) We no longer have chickens, or cats – finding a house big enough, on budget and that allowed pets was too tall a task, but we did find amazing homes for our pets.

And another big change is that all three of the kids stopped being home educated and started school in the Autumn term of 2019. Of course, since then they’ve spent more time at home than they have at school … That was a huge change, and one that the children had asked for. Bean and Plum were both desperate to start school, but PK was adamant that he was staying at home with me. However, when we went on a school visit for Plum, he absolutely loved the place, and they introduced to him to the teacher he would have, and the class he would have – and he stayed for the rest of the morning! All of them have absolutely loved being in school, although there have been ups and downs, but I have to be honest, it’s done us all good, given everything else that has happened in the last 20 months.

So, this was just a quick post to say “hello, we’re still alive!” and fill in some gaps. I’ve no doubt I will expand on all of this in future posts.
