100 Happy Days – Day 74
The Barefoot Books conference kicked off at 7.45am on Friday morning, when the leaders gathered at the Oxford Studio to drink boatloads of caffeine and have their headshots taken by photographer extraordinaire Amy, who was documenting the whole conference.
After breakfast of pastries and fresh fruit, we went to our first session – Mary Christensen’s presentation to the leaders, which was very inspiring. A round-table discussion followed and before long it was time to go to another local restaurant for a delicious lunch with the rest of the conference attendees for the official launch of the conference. It was great to see so many of my team there, some of whom I was meeting for the first time.
After lunch we had a full afternoon – CEO Nancy Traversy shared her vision for the future of Barefoot, and was then joined by Jessica Kim (Barefoot President) and Stefanie Grossman (Program Director) to unveil the key initiatives that will bring that vision to life. It’s going to be a very exciting time!
After a discussion session, we were treated to some sneak peaks of new Autumn releases, courtesy of Editor-in-Chief Tessa Strickland, and then it was time for a quick drink, before our families arrived to join us for a party – dancing, instruments, puppets, face-painting, champagne, wine, delicious food, storytelling and fun until late into the night.
