About Me

I’m Mahala.  Welcome to my blog.

I’m Mum to Bean (5) and Plum (1) and wife to Tom.  I run my own businesses – the Nottinghamshire studios of Precious Memories (which allows me to give vent to my creative streak and get my hands dirty) and Mahala’s Barefoot Books, which allows me to share my love of good books for children.

After over a year of illness, I’ve traded in my teaching career for the life of a WAHM, which I can manage alongside my illness, whereas teaching had become impossible. So, I’m adjusting to the busy life of a work-at-home business mum and becoming a little less scared by it every day.

This blog is about things that are important to me and will variously include parenting, especially breastfeeding; the environment; politics; family.

As well as running my businesses and writing this blog, I’m a volunteer Breastfeeding Peer Supporter for Sure Start and Vice-Chair of the PTA at Bean’s school.
