100 Happy Days – Day 69

I managed to grab a couple of hours to myself today. I spent it at the allotment, wielding the scythe, but it was alone time all the same.

The weeds on the allotment before I got to them today

The mix of rain and sun that we’ve been having recently has been very kind to the weeds and they were knee high in places that we hadn’t yet managed to dig over. So today, I took the scythe to them. I had intended to just go at the nettles at the back of the plot, but actually, I left them until last.

Instead, I started at the end of the potato patch and went right to the other end of the plot, where the rhubarb is. Then I went to the patch we’ve begun digging for beans and peas and slaughtered the weeds there.

Finally, I went to the nettle patch. I knew there were lots of nettles, but when I had finished, I had discovered an area 10ft by 10ft, maybe more. This, dear readers, is where our chickens will be living when we get that far. I think it’s a medium term plan!

The weeds after I had taken the scythe to them. I ended up with six large piles of raked up cuttings!

  1. I admire the hard work you put in, I need to get out into my garden this spring time too.

Well done you for spending your day doing this! I would love to have an allotment one day, growing your own food must be fantastic.

You’ve made me think about attempting to get rid of the weeds in my garden!
