Qiblah and other Interesting Architecture
A-Z Challenge letter: Q – Qiblah
I struggled with what to post about for Q, much like many other A-Z Challenge participants I suspect. So I drew on my previous career in teaching about religion – they must be plenty of Q words in there, surely?
And so it was that I remembered some photos I took on a trip to Egypt in 2005 and the lovely architecture we saw in some of the mosques there. So, instead of teaching year 8 to label the parts of a mosque, I present to you …… Qiblah and other interesting features …..
- The Qiblah – a cut out in the mosque wall that shows the direction of Makkah
- close up of the artwork in the Qiblah
- The Minbar – from where the imam gives a sermon
- A minaret – from where the call to prayer is traditionally sung
- great views of the domes and minarets
What a brilliant challenge! I may try a something similar myself 🙂 x
