100 Happy Days – Day 39

Yesterday afternoon I got a phone call that I’ve been waiting about 8 months for. ¬†And on the basis of that call, the kids and I got up early this morning (well, early for us anyway) and went to meet a guy in overalls and wellies who showed us our new …..

ALLOTMENT!

Our Allotment

Our Allotment – from fence to fence (the greenhouses aren’t ours but the two sheds at the end are)

I know I posted in September that we were getting one, but actually, that wasn’t ours, it was a friend’s, and we’d intended to share it. It all kind of stalled when the council didn’t clear the electrical waste as they promised. It’s now been cleared, but I haven’t had access and haven’t helped with the clearing. But anyway, my name came to the top of the list yesterday, and I think I struck gold.

The allotment we’ve been given has recently been cleared, dug over and had manure spread. But that person moved and someone else took it over. In the two months they had it, all they did was bring their household rubbish to the allotment and dump it. So we need to clear that up, and do some weeding, but otherwise it’s good to go. And it has two sheds. And a compost bin on the go, and another ready to use. And an old bath. And some rhubarb.

The kids are really excited about the possibilities and can’t wait to get stuck in! This was a project I knew I wanted to do when we first made the decision to home educate the children and I’m pleased to be able to get it off the ground.
