A Crafty Project
Just before Christmas I picked up my crochet hooks for the first time in over 2 years and started to crochet again. I’d forgotten how much I love it. Since then, I’ve crocheted several hats, jam jar covers, jingle bell anklets, a waistcoat type thing, a scarf, a dragon, most of an Afghan blanket (still needs the squares blocking and joining and then the border doing) and I have joined a year long project – the Moogly Afghan Crochet-A-Long.
A friend pointed me in the direction of the Moogly blog, where there are lots of lovely crochet projects (and where I found the patterns for my one skein scarf and hat that I almost always have on when I leave the house these days). Whilst I was there, I found details of the CAL – a year long project where participants crochet 2 Afghan squares each month and then put them all together in December to make a blanket. The patterns are released on a certain date, and everyone does them at vaguely the same time. There’s a forum where you can chat with other participants, share work and tips.
It’s been interesting to see everyone else’s take on the patterns we’ve done. Some people have an overall theme in mind for their quilt, so they have the same colours repeating in each square. Mine, on the other hand, is made using up oddments of yarn and whatever else takes my fancy and so will be a complete mix of colours and styles. I quite like the idea of a ragtag blanket 🙂
I’ve been meaning to blog about this project since the beginning of January, but have never got around to it. So here are the results of my first three squares. The fourth is in progress.
