What Do You Get When You Cross ….
… a vertigo sufferer and a teacup ride?
I found out the answer to this little puzzle on Saturday, when we took advantage of our inclusive tickets and explored the rest of the Twin Lakes park. How bad can a ride be, especially when my little, dinky Plum passes the height restrictions (as long as an adult rides with her)? That was my reasoning, and as the ride began, my answer was “not bad at all”. I was feeling almost smug that I was on a ride that rotated. For at least 30 seconds.
Plum had declared “this is fun Mummy!”, but that soon changed to “Mummy, I don’ really like this”. Bean was laughing and thoroughly enjoying himself. I began to try and find a place to focus that didn’t make me feel sick and dizzy – there wasn’t one. The ride was pretty short, but it felt like an eternity to me, as tried to hold on to my breakfast. You’d think I’d know better by now, wouldn’t you?
So, the answer to the initial question is … a dreadfully ill feeling for several hours, followed by 24 hour migraine. Remind me, next time I suggest going on a ride, that I cannot handle anything that goes at speed, in any direction but forward, that has dips (the humped back bridge on the drive home nearly finished me off), or is generally considered entertaining or exciting. My head was just not made for this kind of fun. But I’m great at holding coats.
