WANTED: Climate Cops!
We all know that we need to do more as a society to protect our environment, and many of us have a few ideas on how to go about it too. In my experience, kids have some of the most creative ideas about how we can look after our planet and these ideas are being sought by one of our largest energy suppliers.
This month sees the lauch of nPower’s Climate Cops SOS competition, where groups of children compete for the chance to spend a week at an Outward Bound centre in the Lake District, taking part in lots of sporting activities and learning more about how to be green.
To enter, you’ll need a group of ten current year 7 students, and a willing
slave teacher. The team will need to make a 3-5 minute video showing the changes they’ve made in their school environment, whether it be tackling litter, getting teachers to car share, cutting back on food miles in the school canteen, improving recycling rates, or a range of small activities. You have until 30 June to get your entries in.
The ten teams with the most activity and creativity, showing enthusiasm and a commitment to the environment, will win a week’s Green Outward Bound® course and the chance to meet Ben Fogle!
Teachers’ packs are available, as are downloadable lesson plans and resources.
So, if you know any budding environmentalists, get them to round up their friends and enter the competition!
